History of the Santa Tracker from NORADSanta.org:

For more than 50 years, NORAD and its predecessor, the Continental Air Defense Command (CONAD) have tracked Santa. The tradition began on Christmas Eve in 1955 after a Colorado Springs-based Sears Roebuck & Co. store advertisement for children to call Santa on a special “hotline” included an inadvertently misprinted telephone number. Instead of Santa, the phone number put kids through to the CONAD Commander-in-Chief’s operations “hotline.” The Director of Operations, Colonel Harry Shoup had his staff check radar data for any indication of Santa making his way south from the North Pole. Indeed there were signs of Santa and children who called were given an update on Santa’s location. Thus, the tradition was born.

Diamond mining company De Beers, through a pending class-action lawsuit settlement, will pay millions of Americans refunds totaling up to $135 million. The lawsuits accused De Beers of price-fixing in the sales of rough diamonds purchased between 1994 and 2006. To get your refund, you will need a receipt or other proof of purchase for your diamonds.

On Friday, January 4th at 11:40am, the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge remains closed in both directions due to high winds. The Golden Gate Bridge is now closed to truck traffic, and has buffer lanes in both directions. Motorists are advised to expect severe delays and to use alternate routes and bridges. Tatiana, a 350 pound Siberian tiger at the San Francisco Zoo, killed 17-year-old Carlos Sousa, Jr. of San Jose and wounded two others around 5 p.m. PST on Christmas Day. Details are still emerging about the attack on the 3 victims and police deemed the area a crime scene. The two survivors were rushed to San Francisco General Hospital and were in stable condition Wednesday.
